Planning Your Home Addition
Step 1 – Once Foundation Renovation Company confirms the by-laws allow us to add onto your home, we will meet with you and our Architect to start planning. Be ready to tell the Architect what you want and what your needs are.
Step 2 – We will apply for the permit and start the approval process with the city. Once we get the building permit, we will begin scheduling the construction.
Step 3 – Each step will be planned in phases. Every phase of the build will be priced and invoiced separately. For some phases, we will need 50% upfront and 50% upon completion. To protect you, we do not ask for deposits for the whole job – only for the phase we’re working on. For example, if excavation costs $10,000, we’ll invoice you for 50% ($5,000) to start. Once that’s done, we’ll invoice for the remaining balance. Then, we move on to phase 2, following the same process.

What does it cost to build a Home Addition?
Pricing a home addition without plans and a clear scope of work is just an estimate. After the architectural plans are done, the job can be priced accurately. A general rule is around $200 per square foot, but this can change depending on factors like adding or moving the kitchen, adding a bathroom, or creating a walk-out basement. Other factors, such as how easy it is to access the job site, the home’s age, and how much of the home is being renovated, will also affect the cost. Be sure to set aside about 10% of your budget for contingencies or changes that might come up during the process.
